What treatments do we provide?

We provide the 'full' or 'partial' permanent removal of ingrown toenails. A partial nail removal involves taking a small portion of the offending nail off. Nail removal for fungal or damaged nails is also provided.

What does nail surgery involve?

The procedure involves two injections of local anesthetic into the offending toe.

This is to completely numb your toe so you don't feel anything during the procedure.

Then either the side or the entire nail will be removed.

Acid is rubbed into the base of the nail to prevent that part regrowing.

The procedure usually takes around 35 minutes. Healing is usually 4-8 weeks where a small dressing is placed over the toe daily to keep it clean.

Who will perform the operation?

The procedure will be performed by a fully qualified podiatrist who is HCPC registered and a member of the Royal college of Podiatry with years of nail surgery experience both in private practice and the NHS.

SERVICES

What to expect

Upon entry to the clinic you will be asked to fill out a patient assessment form which will include any medications that you are taking or any allergies that you may have.

The podiatrist will inspect the toe and will discuss whether to remove only the sides of the nail 'partial' or the entire nail. We aim to keep the toe as cosmetically pleasing as possible.

You will be injected twice into the offending toe with local anesthetic which usually takes 5 mins to numb the toe.

Once the toe is completely numb a tourniquet is applied to prevent bleeding.

The portion of nail is then removed and phenol acid is rubbed into the nail bed to prevent that portion of nail growing back.

A large dressing is placed on the toe. It is advisable to bring flip flops / open shoes as the dressing is unlikely to fit in normal shoes. This dressing will only be in place for 24 hours.

Ideally go home and put your feet up. This will reduce the bleeding during the initial healing phase.

FAQ'S

How much does it cost?

The price is £299 for one toe and £320 for two toes. This price also includes all of your after care.

How long does it take to heal?

A partial nail removal usually takes 4-6 weeks and a full nail removal takes around 6-8 weeks.

Is it painful?

The initial injection is like a bee sting pain. The toe will remain numb for 2-3 hours. Once this wears off patients report mild discomfort and occasionally take their usual painkiller.

Will I be off my feet for long?

You will walk in and walk out of the clinic. Ideally go home and put your feet up for the rest of the day. People return to their normal activities the next day. Caution should be taken to avoid excess pressure to the toe during healing.

Will I be off work for long?

Ideally after the procedure put your feet up for the rest of the day. Most people return to work the next day. Its best to avoid any trauma or pressure to the toe during the healing phase.

Can I drive after my procedure?

It is advisable not to drive until the anesthetic has worn off. Ideally have someone who can drive you home afterwards
